UNTS2201 - Design Thinking and Innovation
Overview
Design Thinking and Innovation introduces students to human-centered problem solving and innovation in organizational and business contexts. The course develops the ability to understand users and stakeholders, define meaningful problems, generate creative alternatives, build and test prototypes, learn from feedback, and refine solutions through iteration.
Students examine the design-thinking mindset, designful organizations, design management, innovation leadership, brand-driven innovation, service design, sustainability, commercialization, and the role of storytelling in communicating innovative ideas. The course connects creativity with strategic and managerial decision-making so that proposed solutions are not only desirable to users, but also feasible, viable, adaptive, and sustainable.
Through workshops, team-based design challenges, user research, prototyping, testing, and pitching, students learn to collaborate across disciplines and translate insights into practical managerial frameworks, business concepts, and innovation strategies.
