HPFS1203 - Developmental Psychology

Overview

This course introduces students to the study of human development from the prenatal period to late adulthood. Students examine major areas of development, including physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and psychosocial development, as well as the biological, family, cultural, educational, and social factors that influence development across the lifespan. Key theories, including Piaget's cognitive developmental theory, Erikson's psychosocial theory, Freud's psychoanalytic theory, Vygotsky's sociocultural theory, and attachment theory, are discussed as frameworks for understanding developmental change. Through concept mapping, comparative analysis, observation, contextual case analysis, and educational campaign development, students learn to apply developmental psychology concepts to real-life contexts such as parenting, education, family life, adolescence, adulthood, and community settings.
