IFFS1202 - Programming Fundamentals
Overview
This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts of computer programming using Python. The course develops computational thinking, problem-solving, and algorithm design skills through the study of programming logic, variables, data types, operators, input/output processing, decision-making structures, iteration, functions, and modular programming. Students also learn to work with commonly used data structures such as lists, tuples, dictionaries, and sets, as well as file handling techniques for storing and retrieving data.
In addition, the course introduces foundational object-oriented programming concepts, including classes, objects, inheritance, and polymorphism, preparing students for more advanced software development courses. Emphasis is placed on good programming practices, debugging, testing, documentation, and code readability. Through practical laboratory activities, collaborative learning, and a semester-long software development project, students design, develop, test, and present a Python-based application that addresses a real-world problem while applying professional programming and software development principles.
