UNTS4101 - Research Methodology & Journal Reading

Overview

This university-wide course equips undergraduate students from all faculties (Information Technology, Economics & Business, and Psychology) with essential academic research skills. It introduces research as a structured, ethical, and systematic process aimed at solving real-world problems and advancing knowledge within each discipline.

Students learn to formulate research problems, questions, and objectives aligned with their field of study; conduct effective literature searches and critically analyze journal articles; identify research gaps and develop conceptual frameworks; understand quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method research designs; and apply ethical research practices, including proper referencing (APA) and responsible use of generative AI tools.

Through guided journal reading sessions and progressive writing assignments, students analyze published research across disciplines and strengthen their ability to evaluate scholarly work. The course culminates in the preparation of a draft journal article that integrates theoretical understanding, methodological planning, and academic integrity. This product serves as a practical foundation for the undergraduate thesis (skripsi) and future research or publication activities.
