IDTS4203 - Data Analysis and Visualization
Overview
This course provides a comprehensive practical introduction to data analysis, statistical modeling, and data visualization techniques using the R programming language. It bridges fundamental data operations with advanced graphical communication principles, enabling students to transform complex raw datasets into clear, actionable data-driven stories.
Students will develop core computational competencies across the modern R data science ecosystem. The curriculum focuses heavily on the structural manipulation of diverse data formats via tidy frameworks (including dplyr for querying, tidyr for reshaping, and handling factors and strings). Significant emphasis is placed on the Grammar of Graphics philosophy using ggplot2, guiding students through the application of geometric layers, aesthetic mappings, coordinate transformations, and multi-panel faceting arrays. The course also details essential exploratory data techniques, statistical distributions, correlation modeling, and dynamic report generation.
Additionally, the course addresses critical data governance, profiling bias auditing, and personal data masking rules in accordance with regulatory laws (such as the Indonesian UU PDP and GDPR) within visualization dashboards. Through intensive hands-on labs and real-world project scenarios, students will gain the professional ability to build reproducible data pipelines and deliver executive-grade visual data assets.
