IITS5101 - Real-Time Enterprise System
Overview
This course delivers an advanced, hands-on exploration of the architectural paradigms, distributed systems engineering, and data pipeline technologies required to build low-latency, event-driven enterprise ecosystems. Designed in complete alignment with an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) model, this course shifts focus from traditional monolithic, batch-oriented request/response processing to continuous, stateful computing over high-throughput, real-time data streams.
Students investigate the core structural trade-offs governing distributed infrastructure, analyzing system responsiveness against the data consistency boundaries of the CAP theorem and the performance metrics of site reliability engineering. The curriculum emphasizes data ingestion pipelines, guiding students to implement non-blocking Change Data Capture (CDC) topologies and enforce structural communication policies via evolutionary schema registries.
In the laboratory, students gain practical competencies in building, scaling, and monitoring fault-tolerant streaming pipelines using modern engines (such as Apache Kafka and Apache Flink). Key topics include managing windowing strategies, executing un-ordered stream joins under strict Event-Time watermarking constraints, and guaranteeing transactional integrity across distributed networks via the Saga pattern. Additionally, students are trained in operational resilience by configuring observability dashboards and applying chaos engineering methodologies to validate automated failover routines.
